Judy McDonaldMSc (Hons), Dip Ed Studies, LTCL, Dip Edit. |
In addition to my qualification as a proofreader and editor, I have a background of tertiary qualifications in science, education and music, and a long-standing interest in literature and poetry. |
Editing and proofreading experience |
Since 2010, I have carried out freelance proofreading and editing work for the University of Auckland (assisting staff making applications for Marsden Fund grants, and helping students with essays, dissertations and theses); the University of Waikato (prospectuses and publications for the Communications Unit; assisting local and foreign students and staff with reports, essays, theses and preparation of papers for publication); Wintec (Annual Reports); and reports for private companies. I also work as required doing English-language checking of scientific papers prior to publication for several researchers at the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences (NIH), Oslo. |
Managing time and deadlines |
In my experience it is common for tertiary institutions and students to produce material for final editing very close to their deadlines, so a plea for turnaround within 24 to 48 hours is common. I have always delivered on time. |
Team work and long-distance work |
My present work with academic institutions and past work with AgriScan (an agricultural-extension abstracting service) has always operated smoothly despite geographical separation. |
